In response to the World Coal Association Conference taking place today, Oxfam's head of food and climate policy Tim Gore said:
"The sector must recognize coal is a dinosaur technology that needs to be pushed into extinction if we are to survive.
"Climate change is already affecting the world's poorest people and coal is one of the main drivers in making it worse. Rich countries must lead the way in phasing out coal. As they turn towards agreeing a climate deal in Paris, rich countries should improve emissions reductions targets and provide more crucial climate funding so poor countries can protect themselves and develop in a low carbon way."
