Recentering the Civic Internet through Partner Engagement

In 2024, Oxfam launched its first multi-country rights in a digital age program – “Recentering the Civic Internet through Partner Engagement” – or ReCIPE. Co-funded by a grant from the European Union and implemented by Oxfam Ireland in partnership with local civil society organizations in 10 countries, the project will run until 2027.

ReCIPE aims to cultivate a rights-respecting digital ecosystem that is values-based, human-centric and safe for civil society actors and human rights defenders.

Our Key Pillars

The project rests upon three main pillars that complement each other to help bring about the desired change:

Strengthening the digital rights movement.

We are working as a coalition of civil society partners in 10 countries to build stronger ties between civil society from the Global North and the Global Majority world, to support intersectional movement building for digital rights protection.

Holding governments and corporations accountable.

We engage with governments and companies to shape digital rights norms and ensure accountability for digital harms. We analyze policies and practices to provide targeted recommendations for upholding human rights in multistakeholder digital governance spaces.

Building digital literacy skills of vulnerable organizations and individuals.

We are investing in the digital security of civil society organizations and the communities most at risk of digital harms, including women and LGBTQIA+ people and creating resources for safe and secure online social and political activities.
