Reacting to remarks by new World Bank President Jim Yong Kim at the Brookings Institution in Washington today, Oxfam spokesperson Elizabeth Stuart said: 

"The selection of David Malpass as the US nominee for World Bank president is concerning. Mr. Malpass has yet to demonstrate his commitment and vision for addressing many of the great global challenges of our time," said Nadia Daar, Head of Oxfam International’s Washington Office, in reaction to President Trump’s reported selection of David Malpass as the US nominee for World Bank president.

Oxfam reacted to the World Bank's appointment of Philippe Le Houérou as CEO of their private sector arm, the International Finance Corporation.

Responding to a speech by the president of the World Bank, Oxfam's Nadia Daar said: "The Bank must guarantee that in any dealings with the private sector, reducing poverty, protecting the environment, and helping communities will take priority over financial gain. 

“We’re very pleased to see the World Bank focus its flagship report on inequality and underscore the threat that inequality poses to fighting poverty," said the head of Oxfam International’s Washington office, Nadia Daar.

Countries with high levels of income inequality have Gini coefficients above 0.4, the warning level set by the United Nations.
