More than 75,000 people will die of hunger during the three days that G8 Agriculture Ministers will meet to talk about the food crisis. Oxfam is warning Ministers that the answer to the global food crisis is not increased production in rich countries but support for the world’s poorest farmers.

They can find untold billions to fight the war but can’t even provide half of what is needed by the UN for the most critical humanitarian crises."

The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) is a certification initiative which aims to promote responsible aquaculture. Oxfam regards ASC as an initiative to transform the sector, but there is a need for urgent improvements on social aspects such as fair contracts for farmers, decent labor rights in the industry, and effective and transparent stakeholder consultation.
