Stop Trade on Stolen Land

The continued expansion of illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, has had devastating and far-reaching consequences for Palestinian communities. Israel’s systematic confiscation and exploitation of Palestinian land, water, and natural resources, combined with the extreme movement and access restrictions, have entrenched Palestinians into widespread poverty and blocked economic developed. Israel’s occupation and settlement expansion have deliberately stifled the Palestinian economy, and it is this discriminatory and unlawful settlement enterprise that lies at the heart of the crisis in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (oPt).

Trade with Israeli settlements is incompatible with international law. States and private actors must not recognise, aid, or assist in the illegal settlement enterprise. Ending trade with settlements is a necessary step to uphold human rights, protect Palestinian livelihoods, halt and reverse Israel’s settlement expansion, and end its unlawful occupation.

The July 2024 International Court of Justice ruling makes it clear: governments allowing trade with settlements are complicit in the maintenance and expansion of illegal Israeli settlements and thus in sustaining Israel’s control over the oPt.

New international campaign demands that international law is upheld, Palestinian livelihoods are protected and Israel’s illegal settlement enterprise stops.

It's time to stop foreign complicity. End the illegal occupation!

Oxfam joins a coalition of over 80 humanitarian, development, human rights and faith-based organizations in launching a joint report and international campaign calling for a ban on trade with illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt). Continued trade, including services and investments with illegal Israeli settlements, is incompatible with international law. Governments that permit such trade are complicit in sustaining Israel’s illegal settlement enterprise and its unlawful and prolonged occupation.
