Did you know that since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, billionaires have made unimaginable, record-breaking fortunes? Today, every dimension of inequality - across wealth, income, gender and race - is rising around the world. Every year, the gap between rich and the rest of us widens.
Such extreme inequality isn’t only standing in the way of ending global poverty. Inequality kills. Our economy must stop excessively rewarding those at the top and start working for all people.
It doesn’t have to be this way
Together, we can challenge the concentration of wealth and power in the hands of the few. We can demand an end to patriarchy, white supremacy and neoliberalism. We can change the rules on tax to make sure the richest pay their fair share. We can demand more spending on public health and education. We can demand fair wages for everyone. We can stand up against the destruction of our planet.
Together, we can fight inequality and beat poverty.
Profiting from pain: the urgency of taxing the rich
Inequality, already extreme before COVID-19, has reached new levels. Billionaire wealth has soared during the pandemic while millions of people are facing a cost-of-living crisis. There is an urgent need for governments to implement highly progressive taxation measures that must be used to invest in powerful and proven measures to reduce inequalities.
About the campaign
We’re living in a world where the rules are rigged in favour of the few and at the expense of the many. Extreme inequality is hurting us all. It damages economic growth, threatens decades of progress toward ending poverty and contributes to the death of one person every four seconds. But it is not inevitable – it is the consequence of political and economic choices.
